■ CMTA Consulting Engineers' new office building, 2429 Members Way, has been certified LEED Platinum by the U.S. Green Building Council. The building is the first LEED Platinum office building in Kentucky and the first LEED Platinum building in Lexington. There currently are only six LEED Platinum buildings in Kentucky, including Deep Green Residence Hall at Berea College, which was engineered by CMTA.
LEED Platinum projects are required to meet a minimum of 80 points across seven categories: sustainable sites, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, materials and resources, indoor environmental quality, innovation and regional priority credits. CMTA's building received 81 credits, which included all points for the energy and atmosphere category. Energy-saving features of the building include insulated concrete form walls, geothermal heating and cooling, daylighting, solar photovoltaics, and solar-powered internally actuated diffusers. CMTA is the 64th largest MEP engineering firm in North America, employing 117 people.
