Damien Harris of Madison Southern High School, the nation's top-rated recruit at running back and a leading candidate for Kentucky's Mr. Football, sat out the second half of the Eagles' loss to Southwestern on Friday night, apparently because of an injury to his right knee.
Harris, who scored on a 53-yard run and a 94-yard kickoff return in the first quarter and on a 34-yard run 3:08 before halftime, went to the ground after a 14-yard run late in the first half and was holding his right knee.
Trainers checked out Harris' knee on the sideline, and he remained in the locker room at the start of the second half. He later returned to the sideline with an ice pack on his right knee, the Register reported on Twitter. No additional details about the nature of Harris' injury were immediately available.
Harris did not return to action and the Eagles (5-1) suffered their first loss this season, 32-26.
Southwestern improved to 5-2.
Madison Southern is scheduled to host undefeated Pulaski County in a nationally televised game on ESPNU next Friday night designed to showcase Harris.
Harris was also scheduled to attend the University of Kentucky's home football game against South Carolina on Saturday. Harris is one of Kentucky's top recruiting targets in the class of 2015.
Harris posted this tweet after the game Friday night but did not disclose details about his injury:
